Aboard a sailing ship called the Ocean Star, Rachel and Kirsty listen as the captain talks about the many sailing ships that used to stop at Leamouth’s port, including one called the Mermaid that sank somewhere nearby a very long time ago. Just then a boy spots a pod of orcas, also known as killer whales, off to one side. Looking through binoculars, the girls notice that the small orca at the back of the group is sparkling a little—it must be one of the Magical Sea Creatures.

A noisy speedboat approaches the orcas, then slows down and turns away. Strangely, the orcas are unbothered by the noise and begin to follow the speedboat, which now appears to be trying to flee. Knowing ocean creatures will behave oddly until the magic conch shell is repaired, the girls look around and find Whitney the Whale Fairy sitting on a buoy nearby. Once Kirsty checks that no one else is looking, Whitney turns the girls into fairies to follow Flukey the magic orca.

Flying low over the water so reflected sunlight will hide them from view, the girls and Whitney approach the pod of orcas, where they realise two things: the speedboat is full of Goblins, and the piece of the magic shell is stuck in some seaweed tangled around Flukey’s tail. Before Whitney can warn Flukey, he gets close enough to the boat that one of the goblins can grab the shell piece off his tail. The goblins promptly begin fighting over the shell piece, and end up dropping it overboard. With some bubble magic from Whitney to let them breathe, the three fairies dive in after it.

Flukey and the fairies haven’t been searching for long when the orca notices five divers above them. Dropping towards the seafloor to hide, Rachel is the first to see a dark shape that turns out to be a sunken ship. She, Kirsty, and Whitney hide in the ship’s cabin as the divers—the goblins from the speedboat, wearing flippers and magic bubble helmets—catch up. Quietly, the fairies split up to keep searching while the goblins are distracted playing captain, but Rachel makes enough noise trying to move a piece of mast that the goblins notice her. Thinking quickly, Kirsty asks Whitney to cast a spell on the rotten contents of an old chest in the cabin, then announces loudly that she’s found a treasure chest. The goblins stop chasing Rachel immediately, and she joins Kirsty and Whitney at the front of the ship where they find the shell piece tucked into the mermaid figurehead’s carved hair.

The goblins, draped in the seaweed and shells Whitley had disguised as treasure, see the shell and hurry towards the fairies, but Flukey calls the rest of the pod of orcas, who chase the goblins goblins away. All of them return to the surface, where Whitney shrinks Flukey to his miniature Fairyland size and takes him and the shell piece. Returning the girls to the deck of the Ocean Star as humans, Whitney thanks them before disappearing to Fairyland.
