The girls and their families have returned to Rainspell Island for half term. Rachel and Kirsty hurry to the beach but are dismayed to discover litter scattered across the beach and in the surf. Kirsty suggests they go to Fairyland for help and the girls use their magic lockets to do so. King Oberon and Queen Titania are surprised to see them, but when Rachel explains the problem they both look concerned. The queen says she’s heard about the trouble with the human world’s environment, but sadly fairy magic isn’t strong enough to fix it all. However, there is a Wand Ceremony happening at the palace that day, which the girls are invited to attend.
At the Seeing Pool, the girls find seven fairies, whom Titania introduces by name while Bertram the frog brings a tray with seven wands. When the queen taps each wand to the water of the pool, a picture of a different area appears and she assigns the wand and a Green Fairy title to each fairy. As she explains that even these fairies can only help humans fix their problems, a gust of icy wind interrupts the ceremony and Jack Frost swoops in with seven goblins in tow. The goblins snatch the new wands and vanish as Jack Frost boasts that goblins will do better at “being green” than fairies, and each goblin has been taken to each wand’s assigned place. Before the fairies can fully explain what’s going on, he vanishes as well.
The queen enlists the girls’ help with recovering the stolen wands and sends them back to Rainspell’s beach along with Nicole, who had been designated the Beach Fairy. While they look for the goblin, the girls decide to pick up the litter they see, and Nicole uses her limited wandless magic to conjure bags to put the rubbish and recycling in. When they pass a family having a picnic, the girls explain to the curious children what they’re doing and the whole family begins to help clean up. Further along, the girls and Nicole encounter a seagull with his foot caught in a plastic bag. Nicole is able to talk to him and calm him down enough for the girls to free him, and the gull tells her he’s heard about other animals getting caught in rubbish on beaches all over the world. Another seagull arrives and reports a “little green man” throwing rubbish from the beach into the sea, so the girls and Nicole hurry off in the direction he points them.
The goblin refuses to give back Nicole’s wand and doesn’t believe the girls when they tell him the rubbish in the ocean will still cause trouble and might end up back on the beach. He tries to attack them with the wand, but he has no idea how to use it—also, as Nicole points out, fairy wands are only meant for good magic and turning people into fairies. At that, Kirsty has an idea. She asks Nicole to turn her and Rachel into fairies, which Nicole has just enough magic to do. As Kirsty had hoped, the jealous goblin uses the wand to turn himself fairy-sized with wings and begins flying, clumsy with inexperience. The girls and Nicole do fancy midair tricks, making the goblin so dizzy when he tries to copy them that he falls to the ground and drops the wand, which Nicole quickly takes. She turns the goblin and the girls back to normal and leaves the girls with more bags for litter. When their parents arrive on the beach, they help clean up too, talking about what they can do to get other people to join their efforts.
