Blurb[]

Summer camp is one of the best parts of summer vacation, thanks to Cara the Camp Fairy! Because of her special magic, campers can navigate through woods, stay cool during the day, and do lots of fun activities. But Jack Frost has sent his goblins to steal Cara's magic. Now camp is a catastrophe!

Rachel and Kirsty have been looking forwards to camp for months, bu everything is going all wrong. Can they help Cara fix things... before the whole summer is ruined?

Appearance[]

Cara has light skin with brown-blonde hair put into two braids. She wears a sparkly light purple tank top with stripy blue shorts decorated with little bows, flip flops, a leaf necklace, and two friendship bracelets on her wrist. Her wings are pointy and indigo-tinted.

Symbol: Golden stars and green leaves.

Magic Objects/Job[]

Magic Objects:

  1. The Friendship Bracelet: to look over all arts and crafts at camp.
  2. The Water Bottle: makes sure that campers keep cool during the day. Without it, campers will never cool down and fans break!
  3. The Compass: makes sure campers don't get lost.

Job: Cara's job is to make sure that summer camp is fun for all campers.

Jack Frost's Poem[]

Camp has things that goblins adore,

Bugs and games and stick s'mores.

But I, Jack Frost, can't stand the sun,

I sit in the dark while campers have fun.

So I'll ruin camp and drain the lake,

I'll spoil the crafts kids love to make.

As long I have the items three,

No one will have fun -- except for me!

Camp Chaos![]

Rachel and Kirsty are at Camp Oakwood for the summer and are in the middle of a crafts session led by the camp leader, Bollie. Just as they’re decorating their drawings with wool, the glue won’t stick. Instead, Bollie turns to the paint spinner and sets it up, but paint splatters everywhere. Bollie decides to cancel craft time altogether and go on a hike. Rachel and Kirsty suspect it might have something to do with Jack Frost. The troupe comes across large footprints but no one can decipher whose they are, apart from Rachel and Kirsty. They’re goblin footprints. Later in the evening, the girls discuss the day’s weird occurrences and decide to sprinkle some fairy dust into a puddle (rather than use it to go to Fairyland because “Bollie would be looking for us”, the girls forgetting that time stops when they’re in Fairyland). King Oberon and Queen Titania appear in the puddle and the girls explain what’s happened. They respond they will send Cara the Camp right away, and moments later, Cara appears within a light display by some fireflies. Cara looks in her backpack to find her three magic objects have been replaced by rocks - Jack Frost has stolen them. Kelly, the girls’ acquaintance, comes up to them and tells them it’s time to go to bed, before gushing to them about fairies.

In the morning, Rachel and Kirsty are getting ready for a canoe trip, but the lake is too low and the canoes are leaking. The camp leaders grant everyone an hour of free time, and Cara appears, having found Jack Frost on the other side of the woods, and he’s set up his own camp, Camp Frost. Cara magics the girls there and they see goblins chaotically taking part in various crafts. Rachel has an idea and gets Cara to magic up papier mâché goblin noses as disguises, and Rachel and Kirsty enter the craft cabin. They join in making lolly stick picture frames, and as they do, the goblins reveal Jack Frost took Cara's objects because he can’t have fun in the sun, so no one will. As they’re distracted, Rachel grabs Cara's bracelet which is inside an art supplies tub, but Kirsty’s fake nose slips and the goblins realise they’re humans.

The girls run out of the cabin, and the goblins follow but become stuck in glue, thanks to Cara's magic. As they run through the woods back to Camp Oakwood, the girls realise they’re going in circles, because Jack Frost has taken Cara's magic compass. The goblins are getting nearer but luckily an army of squirrels hiding in the trees start pelting acorns down at them. The squirrels then proceed to show Rachel and Kirsty back to Camp Oakwood, and Cara takes her bracelet and vanishes. However, Kelly is right there and sees her, but Rachel and Kirsty convince her it was just a butterfly. The three girls go and search for fairies around the camp.

Melting Magic[]

The next day, Bollie wakes up the girls in Rachel and Kirsty’s cabin. Their troupe is the Rowdy Raccoons, made up of Brianna, Sophie, Madison, Abigail and Alyssa. As everyone lines up in the food hall to get breakfast, everyone becomes increasingly hot, and the fans won’t work. Bollie announces that the canoes have been fixed and everyone will go and cool off in the lake. However, when they get there, the lake is even lower than yesterday. Unfortunately, Bollie has to turn everyone back to the camp, but decides to compensate with a water balloon fight. Everyone works together to fill balloons with water, but when they’re thrown, the water is warm and uncomfortable. Bollie, thinking on her feet yet again, sends some camp leaders to get ice creams, letting everyone have some free time. Rachel and Kirsty walk into the woods but get lost. Luckily, Cara appears and explains Jack Frost has put more goblin guards around his cabin in his camp. They all start to think of ways to get the goblins out of the camp. Kirsty suggests they make a fake holiday camp bracelet and lure the goblins out into the woods.

Rachel and Kirsty leave Cara while they get some wool, but see the camp leaders pull up, having bought ice creams from town. The children line up to get one, but when they open the lid, they see the ice cream is like hot chocolate. The girls run to the camp and fetch some things for their plan. They go back to the woods and Cara magics up a bracelet that looks just like hers. Rachel and Kirsty sit down and start making bracelets, loudly announcing how much fun it is. Soon enough, some goblins come wandering over. When they spot Cara, they grab her tiny backpack instead, so Rachel tackles the goblin who has it, causing him to drop it. Cara swoops in and takes it again, and the goblins start running back to Camp Frost. A big branch falls down from a tree, causing the goblins to fall over it. Rachel plucks out the water bottle from within the goblin pile and hands it back to Cara, who turns the girls and her bottle into fairy-size. The girls notice a woodpecker peeking around the trunk, it’s Cara's friend Hazel who broke the branch in the nick of time.

The girls and Cara fly back to Camp Oakwood and Cara disappears, turning the girls back into humans as they walk out the woods. Kelly is there again, and says she saw more fairies. They all hear cheers from the camp and race back there to find everyone running towards the lake, as the water level has risen again. Everyone enjoys splashing about in the lake.

Confused Campers![]

That evening, the Rowdy Raccoons are eating ice lollies in food hall when Kelly comes up to Rachel and Kirsty, asking if they’ll go fairy-searching with her. The girls suggest playing tomorrow, and Kelly leaves dejectedly. Rachel and Kirsty leave and find Cara in the woods, and invite her along to the campfire later on. Cara makes herself smaller and glowing, like a firefly. At the campfire, everyone is having fun singing campfire songs all night, and when it’s time to go to bed, the camp leaders count the children in each troupe. However, one of the Sassy Squirrels is missing - it’s Kelly. The camp leaders send everyone to bed while they look for her, and Rachel and Kirsty remember that without Cara's magic compass, Kelly and the camp leaders will get lost. The girls sneak out of their cabin and meet Cara again, who has called on an owl called Midnight to help find Kelly. The girls turn into fairies and they and Cara ride Midnight over the woods, and eventually find Kelly. The girls turn back into humans and run up to Kelly, who got lost looking for fairies. Midnight shows them the way back to the camp, and the girls bump into Bollie and the other camp leaders. Bollie is cross as they could have got lost, but Kirsty shows them the way back to camp, with Midnight’s help.

The next morning, the girls have free time before a volleyball tournament and they find Cara on a tree branch. They enter the woods to go to Camp Frost but goblins are hiding around, and throw acorns at them. The girls go back to camp because free time is nearly over, and hear Kelly talking about what happened the night before - she saw a camp on the other side of the woods, with boys wearing green uniforms. Bollie thinks it must be a Forest Scout camp, even though the boys’ camp on the other side of the wood had closed years ago. She fondly remembers when Camp Oakwood and the boys' camps would raid each other, and decides to lead a raid on the camp. Rachel and Kirsty are concerned at everyone seeing goblins, and manage to convince Bollie to do the raid around sunset so they won’t see them properly.

Throughout the day, Camp Oakwood prepares themselves with water balloons. Bollie leads everyone through the woods and when they come to Camp Frost, everyone begins throwing water balloons at the goblins. Among the chaos, Rachel and Kirsty sneak to Jack Frost’s cabin but he’s there waiting for them, holding up Cara's magic compass. He refuses to give it back, saying he wants to have fun sitting around a campfire like everyone else, but he can’t because it’s too hot. Just as he begins to steal Cara's backpack, Kirsty suggests a deal - Cara can make a magic fire that feels cold if he’ll give the compass back. He agrees, and Cara magics up a freezing campfire. Back at the raid, Bollie calls everyone to retreat as all the water balloons have been used up. To celebrate the successful raid, everyone gathers around the campfire, toasting marshmallows. They can hear the goblin camp singing from across the woods.

The next day, Rachel and Kirsty are woken by a robin at their window. They go outside to find Cara, who has two bracelets for them, and one for Kelly since the King and Queen felt sorry for her getting lost. Cara thanks them for their help one last time and disappears. The girls give Kelly the bracelet, and reassure her that fairies are real if she believes in them.
