Fairy Profile from the Official RM Facebook Page[]

Alice's pink, sparkly Magic racquet helps keep everything within bounds on the tennis court. When she uses her magic, it sends out a trail of pink sparkles and tiny tennis balls. Alice believes that temper tantrums don't have a place in any sport, whether from a frustrated player or a parent watching on the sidelines. She reminds everyone the way to keep sports fun is to always be polite, and never argue with the referee because they have a very tough job to do.

Blurb[]

Rachel and Kirsty love playing tennis, but with Alice's Magic Racquet missing, they can't seem to hit a single shot! The girls must help Alice find the goblins before it's too late...

Rachel and Kirsty are going for a walk when Rachel spots a clumsily written sign on a tree that reads “Goblindon” and points to the Tippington Tennis Club. Worried that humans will see any Goblins that might be at the club, the girls hurry towards the entrance, stopping when they overhear a goblin explaining that the one rule of the Goblindon Tennis Tournament is that he, the umpire, makes all the rules. Peeking through the hedge surrounding the club, the girls see several goblins in white tennis outfits on one of the courts - the one on the tall umpire’s chair is holding the pink, sparkly Magic Tennis Racquet. He announces that whichever goblin wins their tournament will get to hold onto the racquet for the day, which confuses the girls because he doesn’t look like he wants to give it up.

Moving closer to the club entrance, the girls watch as the goblins set up a ball machine, the umpire explaining that the goblins are to hit or dodge the balls launched at them. If any goblin is hit by a ball, he will be eliminated from the tournament. As balls start flying and hitting some goblins, the girls notice that the umpire keeps turning up the speed on the machine - he really doesn’t want to give up the racquet. One tennis ball flies off the court and stops in midair in front of the girls, with Alice the Tennis Fairy sitting on top of it. She and the girls sneak into the club, Alice pointing out a poster for an away tournament that explains why no other humans are there and conjuring a pair of tickets when a goblin is reluctant to let the girls pass.

Following two goblins pushing a cartload of strawberries-and-cream bowls, the girls approach the court and find that five goblins are left in the tournament. Alice tries to fetch her magic racquet, but the ten-minute timer ends and Rachel and Kirsty have to distract the umpire by asking him to autograph their tickets so Alice can hide. One of the five finalist goblins swaps his white headband for an orange one and the umpire disqualifies him for it, leaving four goblins who begin a doubles tennis match. One of those goblins grunts loudly whenever he swings his racquet and gets disqualified for that, leaving three - the two who were the grunting goblin’s opponents begin fighting over who should sit out to keep the game even, until one hits the other with his racquet and is disqualified for that. The last two goblins begin a game against each other and are fairly well-matched with the Magic Racquet nearby, but when one goblin hits the ball into the net he throws his racquet to the ground in frustration and the umpire disqualifies him.

The last goblin shouts that he’s won, but the umpire refuses to hand over the magic racquet, saying the other goblin hasn’t played a full match. They start arguing, and Rachel tells Kirsty to disagree with what she’s about to say before joining the argument in favor of the winning goblin. Kirsty shouts that the other goblin shouldn’t have been disqualified for dropping his racquet, and Rachel adds that the grunting goblin shouldn’t have been disqualified either. Soon all the goblins are arguing with each other and the umpire, who gets so mad that he leaves his chair and the magic racquet to dump a bowl of strawberries and cream on another goblin.

Alice retrieves her racquet and flies towards the girls, but the goblins notice her and chase the girls to the end of the court near the now-empty ball machine. Kirsty tells Alice to bring the food cart over and begins pouring strawberries and cream into the machine with Rachel helping her. They turn on the machine and strawberries and cream all over the goblin, who are angry at first but then begin eating it. Soon, the goblins have eaten too much, and they go home with stomachaches as Alice cleans up the mess with her magic. The girls say goodbye to Alice, knowing there’s only one more magic object left to find.

Trivia[]

  • The US book gives Rachel two extra lines explaining aspects of the real Wimbledon Tennis Tournament, which American readers might be unfamiliar with: Strawberries and cream is the official refreshment of Wimbledon, and all players are required to wear white.
  • Her French name is Tiffany.
  • Her Greek name is Τζένη (Jenny).
  • On the US cover the tennis balls are yellow instead of white.
