Pippa the Poppy Fairy is the second fairy in the Petal Fairies series.

Pippa carries a crimson red poppy-shaped magic petal, to help make all red flowers grow. Sparkling red magic comes from the tip of her fairy wand. Pippa is always calm and never gets upset when things go wrong. No matter how hectic things might get, she reminds everyone to relax and take time to stop and smell the flowers.

After breakfast at Blossom Hall hotel, Rachel and Kirsty go exploring inside the building and admire several paintings before coming to the lobby where a man in a florist’s uniform is replacing a wilted flower arrangement with a fresh one. The girls overhear the florist talking to the receptionist, learning his name is Bill, and Kirsty says she recognises the name of the florist shop in the nearby village. They aren’t surprised to hear that the florist shop is having trouble, and even some flowers in the fresh arrangement are already wilting.

Bill leaves to take the hotel’s order for next week’s flowers, and Pippa the Poppy Fairy flutters out of a large red poppy to greet the girls. She says she was sure her magic petal was in the florist shop but got carried to the hotel by mistake before she could retrieve it. As more people fill the lobby, Pippa hides in Rachel’s pocket and the girls move to a window seat just in time to see Jack Frost’s goblins darting across the yard to the florist van parked outside, tossing flowers around as they look for the petal. The girls head for the door, but Bill goes outside before they can do anything, loading the scattered flowers back into the van and assuming aloud that he knocked them over when he carried the basket inside. There’s no sign of goblins until Bill shuts the van doors and gets in the driver’s seat, at which point the goblins hiding in the van jump up to make faces at the girls through the back window as it drives away.

The florist shop is near enough that the girls know they’ll be allowed to go there, but they need a reason to visit the village. Luckily, Kirsty discovers that Bill left his order notebook behind. She goes inside to borrow two of the bicycles kept for hotel guests while Rachel gets permission from their parents, and soon they’re off with Pippa riding in Rachel’s bike basket. At the florist shop, the girls meet Bill’s wife and business partner Kate, who thanks them for returning the notebook and lets them each pick out a small bouquet from the back room as a reward.

The back room, however, is full of goblins, making a big mess as they look for the petal. One announces that he’s found it and soon all the goblins are arguing over who gets to give it to Jack Frost. When Rachel confronts them, all the goblins run out the back door. Pippa cleans up the mess with magic, and the girls hurry to the front door and the bicycles, telling Kate they forgot something outside. They find the goblins in the park, hiding in a tree, and Pippa turns the girls into fairies to go after the petal.

The goblin with the petal continues to dodge the girls and Pippa until the one with the wand from Jack Frost makes a slide of ice to get them down from the tree. Pippa turns the girls back into humans to give chase on the bikes. Rachel and Kirsty ride past the goblin with the petal on each side; when he holds it out of Rachel’s reach Kirsty is there to grab it easily and make a swift getaway. Pippa thanks the girls and returns to Fairyland with her petal, then the girls select small bunches of fresh red poppies from the florist shop before returning to Blossom Hall.
