Jack Frost's Poem[]

I've followed Ellen up and down,

And left and right, and round and round.

That silly fairy's found no treasure.

It's like she's travelling for pleasure!

I've got more exciting dreams

Than hiking over rocks and streams.

I'll take that fairy's magic things,

And be as rich as fifty kings!

The Felt Flower*[]

Rachel and Kirsty are eating breakfast on the Jungle Express. They and Rachel’s parents are accompanying Rachel’s Aunt Willow, the famous explorer, to the Lost City in the Congo Jungle. Suddenly, the train comes to a stop and the waiter explains the train driver must be having problems with the route. Rachel picks up an upturned teacup to find Ellen the Explorer Fairy, who explains she was trying to find Jack Frost and his Goblins on the train, and coincidentally found them instead. Ellen also explains that Jack Frost wanted to become an explorer like herself, so he stole her magic objects. Just as they’re about to look around the train, the girls meet Aunt Willow and her daughter Margot and chat about the expedition planned. Aunt Willow shows signs of forgetting simple compass directions, and the girls leave them.

They come across the train car of cabins and listen in on each one, hoping to hear goblin squawks. They eventually find a group of goblins messing around in the luggage car, who recognise them as the human friends of the fairies, so they escape out the window and onto the roof. The girls hear them stop over Cabin 13, and decide to disguise themselves as cabin stewards in order to get inside. They inform Jack Frost that the breakfast service is ending soon, and he quickly leaves the cabin, followed by the goblins.

The girls and Ellen take the chance to search Jack Frost’s cabin but can’t find the objects anywhere - he must be carrying them himself. They hear him bossing around waiters in the dining car, and tell him someone’s searching around his cabin, in order to get him away from the other diners. He smirks and pats his pocket. Suddenly, the train jolts to a stop again, causing the goblins and Jack Frost to fall into a tangle. Ellen bravely dives into his pocket and retrieves her Seeking Scroll. She is happy, and disappears back to Fairyland. The girls drop in on Aunt Willow’s cabin again to make sure she’s back to normal, and sure enough, she is.

The Questing Compass[]

The girls, Margot, Aunt Willow, Mr and Mrs Walker disembark the train but Aunt Willow forgets why they did. Rachel reminds her of the anticipated expedition to the Lost City. Luckily Aunt Willow isn’t suffering from early-stage dementia, but because of Ellen’s missing objects. They meet Scarlett, who will fly them to the river in her aeroplane. They fly over the African planes until everyone realises they’re flying in a circle, and Rachel has to remind Scarlett where they’re headed to. Ellen appears and takes them to Fairyland to show them the trouble caused by the missing compass. They come across Samira the Superhero Fairy who says Jack Frost is planning to tell King Oberon and Queen Titania that HE is the rightful ruler of Fairyland, taking advantage of their memory worsened by Ellen’s missing objects.

The fairies find goblins bathing in the Seeing Pool and are about to confront them when Jack Frost appears and touches his wand to the magic compass. Their minds become foggy but handily Kirsty had written the purpose of their visit to Fairyland on her hand, so they get back on track. The goblins and Jack Frost run away to hide somewhere else and Ellen sends the girls back to the aeroplane. It lands by the river and everyone boards the Jenny Jay, a boat owned by Nell.

They wave off Scarlett, and enjoy the trip down the river. Rachel and Kirsty decide to explore the boat, and find a seasick goblin in the cabin, holding the questing compass. Ellen helps make him feel better again in exchange for the compass, but he won’t give it. Suddenly, the boat bumps into the bank and the goblin sees a crocodile through the porthole. He agrees to give it to them if he can go home, so he does, and when Ellen touches it again, their minds become clear. Ellen thanks the girls and disappears, leaving them to watch the boat pull into the dock and see the mountains of the Lost City.

The Mighty Magnifying Glass[]

Everyone gets off the boat and starts to trek, keeping an eye out for markers guiding the way to the Lost City. However, the girls learn that everyone else doesn’t perceive the animal markers as they do - they interpret them as different animals, leading to disagreements over the route. Eventually, they reach a clearing and stop for lunch. Rachel and Kirsty excuse themselves to explore, and find Ellen hiding in the weeds by the lake. There are times where they can hear some goblins, but they can’t see them. They decide to close their eyes and listen to where the goblin sounds are coming from. They end up hugging trees, which slowly they turn into goblins who were using the magnifying glass’ powers to disguise themselves.

The goblins are sure that Jack Frost’s disguise is even better, so the girls turn to a human-looking cactus sitting by the pool. With some kind of mystic friendship power I can’t really explain, Rachel and Kirsty think of memories with the fairies and somehow come to the conclusion that this cactus is Jack Frost, so they touch it, and the disguise withers away. They fight over the magnifying glass for a while, but Jack Frost demands Ellen to tell him why he’s not a famous explorer yet. She replies that it’s not the treasure that explorers love, it’s the discovery - and the Lost City IS the treasure. Jack Frost gets angry and drops the magnifying glass on the ground in rage. Ellen collects it and Jack Frost storms off to think of more ways to get treasure.

Overjoyed, Ellen thanks the girls for getting her objects back, and disappears back to Fairyland. Rachel and Kirsty rejoin the others, and trek to the Lost City, marvelling at its architecture and the fact that no one’s been there in hundreds of years. They all set up camp in the ruins for the night, and Rachel and Kirsty reflect on the magicalness of their adventures.

Trivia[]

  • There is a mistake in the contents where it says the first object is the 'Felt Flower'; however, the Seeking Scroll does have a flower seal.
  • All 3 of her objects are the same as other fairies': Cara the Camp Fairy also has a magic object that is a compass, Angelica the Angel Fairy also has a magic object that is a scroll, Jacinda the Peace Fairy also has a magic object that is a magnifying glass.
