Blurb[]

Kristy has joined a junior cheerleading squad and is headed to her first big competition in nearby Cove City! Rachel is coming along for the weekend to support her friend - and cheer her on from the sidelines.

The girls are excited, but the competition is stiff, and things are about to take a magical turn... Jack Frost has stolen Carmen the Cheerleading Fairy's magic objects. He has a new trophy case in the Ice Castle and wants the cheer competition's top prize to come home with him!

UK blurb[]

Carmen the Cheerleading Fairy makes sure cheerleaders can practise safely. But when Jack Frost steals her magical objects, cheerleading competitions everywhere go wrong! Can Rachel and Kirsty help Carmen to get her magical objects back before anyone gets hurt?

Appearance[]

Carmen has black hair in a side plait and brown skin. She wears a black and pink top with long purple sleeves and a matching skirt with pink, blue and white trainers. She is holding a purple pompom in her hand. Her wings are lilac-tinted and round-pointed. On the UK cover, her wings are orange-tinted instead.

Symbol: Pink and purple stars with yellow megaphones.

Magic Objects/Job[]

Magic Objects:

  1. The Pom-Pom: controls athleticism, such as squads perfecting their routines.
  2. The Hair Bow:
  3. The Megaphone: makes sure squads cheer loudly and confidently.

Job: Carmen's job is to watch over all cheerleaders and cheerleading competitions.

Jack Frost's Ode[]

You might think that you have a reason to cheer

But I’ll make your good feelings –poof!– disappear.

Magic pom-pom, hair bow, and megaphone, too–

They’re mine now! No cheerleading magic for you.

I’m sick of the cheer, the sunshine and smiles.

I have to admit, they’re just not my style.

So go on and try all your flips and your tumbles,

But now, thanks to me, you’re going to stumble!

Pom-Pom Problems[]

Kirsty and Rachel arrive at Cove City for the Junior Cheerleading Competition. They and Mr and Mrs Tate enter the gymnasium and Kirsty greets her squad captain, Sunny, before they join their teammates. Kirsty's parents and Rachel sit on the bleachers to watch, but the practice goes wrong not only for Kirsty's squad, but the others as well. Rachel sees a light from a nearby pile of pom-poms and goes down the bleachers to see a fairy nestled within them. Rachel introduces herself and so does the fairy. She explains that her magic objects are missing and without them, cheerleading will go wrong. Rachel offers to help and Carmen explains she was looking in the pom-pom pile for her magic pom-pom, then describes each object's job. Practice is over and Carmen hides in Rachel's pocket before she waves Kirsty over. Kirsty is worried and Rachel hugs her, then Carmen shows herself. Kirsty is relieved to hear everyone's routines went badly because of the missing objects.

The gym is too crowded, so Kirsty suggests looking around the hallways until the gym empties. They get permission from her parents to explore; as they walk down the hallway, Carmen hears something and they run to peek around a corner, finding a group of performing goblins. Carmen explains it's because of her pom-pom that's in the hands of a goblin. As the girls think of a plan, Carmen points out that the goblins are leaving, and the girls run after them outside. They follow them to the main lawn, where the goblins are causing chaos across the campus.

They finally take a break, and Rachel comes up with a plan. The goblins teach the girls a back handspring and a cheer sequence, when a goblin inadvertently gives Rachel the magic pom-pom. She puts it close to her shirt pocket so Carmen can touch it and return to Fairyland. The goblins realise the pom-pom has gone and the girls leave them to argue. They head back to the gym, Rachel asking what's next and Kirsty replies they have to check into the hotel and have dinner with her squad. They vow to find Carmen's other missing objects.

Picture-perfect[]

Rachel, Kirsty and her squad, Mrs Gold and Mrs Tate arrive at the Cove City Hotel after having dinner together. The squad is unhappy, with Kirsty explaining no one was getting along that afternoon. While Mrs Tate collects the bags from the car and the squad goes to their hotel rooms, the girls enter the lobby. Staring at a chandelier, they notice Carmen who darts into Kirsty's tote bag. Similar to the gym, the girls explore a hallway and some goblins tumble out of the elevator. The girls chase after them into an indoor pool, watching as the goblins perform and share the magic hair bow. The goblins climb out of the pool and run back through the hotel, throwing the hair bow back and forth, the girls following. The goblins somersault through the lobby into a hallway until they surround a wedding cake, the girls hiding behind a plant.

The goblins form a pyramid so they can grab the top tier of the cake; as they watch, Kirsty thinks of a plan. Turned into fairies, they fly over to the goblin with the hair bow at the top of the pyramid and make him dizzy, causing the pyramid to collapse. Kirsty flies down to pluck the hair bow from the goblin at the bottom and gives it back to Carmen, who chants a cheer and turns the girls back into humans. The goblins untangle themselves and walk away, arguing. Kirsty comments that her competition starts in the morning, and Rachel says if they can work together they can save it. Carmen cheers and goes back to Fairyland, and the girls join Kirsty's squad in the hotel cafe.

Megaphone Madness[]

Kirsty and Rachel board a bus to take them to the Cove College campus, but Kirsty becomes nervous over the competition and Rachel reassures her that Carmen will get her magic megaphone back. Upon arrival, the girls join a crowd watching a group of goblin cheerleaders performing a routine. One of the goblins has the magic megaphone, and the girls overhear some kids complain. As the girls confidence wanes, Kirsty sees Carmen on top of a fountain. They run over and Carmen gives a pep talk to cheer them up. Just as the goblins finish and the crowd disperses to sit in the chairs, Jack Frost walks onto the stage with the magic megaphone to announce the competition. Seeing this riles Carmen up but Rachel reminds her not to be seen by the crowd.

Jack Frost launches his own chant before running off stage. The girls and Carmen go backstage only to run into Jack himself, who snaps at them to watch it but doesn't look down and tosses the magic megaphone to a goblin, ordering them to win the trophy. The girls notice extra uniforms and quickly change so they can join the goblin squad. The squad performs onstage and the girls copy behind them, until Carmen gives a cue for Kirsty to tumble, cartwheel and handspring her way to snatch the magic megaphone from the goblin. She uses it to cheer and Rachel and the goblins join her, before the goblins throw Kirsty into the air.

Carmen flies in to grab her megaphone and the squad finishes their routine. They go backstage, where Jack Frost asks for the megaphone before he berates them and the girls step forward to explain that the megaphone has been returned and it's not right to take things. As Jack Frost raises his wand, Carmen stops him and says she has an idea. Using her magic, she carries a trophy over and says she made it for him instead of him stealing the cheerleading trophy. He examines the trophy and accepts it, before he and the goblins go to his Ice Castle. Carmen cheers, and Kirsty says she needs to change as her squad is next, giving Rachel and Carmen high fives and runs off. Rachel cheers her on and Carmen sends sparkles into the air, commenting that the competition will be truly magical.
