Amber the Orange Fairy is the second fairy in the Rainbow Fairies series.

Official Description[]

Amber the Orange Fairy is responsible for all things orange - oranges, peaches and flowers. Fragrant orange-smelling bubbles float from her gold-tipped wand as she waves it to create her colour.

Fairy Profile from the Official RM Facebook Page[]

Orange is the "happy" color. Amber is always giggling and cracking jokes. She'll try to inject a little humor into even the gravest situation.

Blurb[]

Amber the Orange Fairy is trapped in an unusual place! Can the fluffy feather really help Rachel and Kirsty rescue her?

Appearance[]

Her hair is medium-length, rusty-brown in colour, pulled up in a high ponytail, and held back by three orange flowers. Amber wears a long-sleeved orange catsuit paired with a clear, orange-tinted skirt with a jagged hem. The skirt is held in place with a light orange flower belt. On her feet are knee-high, orange boots. Amber's wings are pointy in shape and are tinted orange.

Magical Object[]

Amber's magical object is her wand. According to the official Rainbow Magic website and the book, Amber's wand is orange-tipped with gold. (The book covers, however, feature Amber and all other fairies' wands as simple black lines.) Her special fairy dust symbol is an orange bubble.

As Amber has no special object like many other fairies do, she relies solely on her wand to create the colour orange. Her wand is the source of her power, and without it, the colour orange would disappear from Fairyland entirely. (It is never made clear whether the human world would be affected, though.) It also appears that Amber must be present in Fairyland for her magic to work, as orange (among other colours) disappeared from Fairyland, even though she still had her wand with her when she was banished by Jack Frost.

Personality[]

Amber has a tendency to get very excited and joyful when something goes right. She can thus be described as a very hyper-active fairy.

Rachel and Kirsty are walking along the beach on Rainspell Island, searching fruitlessly for another fairy. Remembering Queen Titania’s advice not to look too hard, the girls decide to play in the water instead, then look for shells. Their search brings them all the way to the other end of the beach, at which point the wind begins acting strangely. Sand blows away from a large peach-and-orange scallop shell, from inside which comes a soft humming sound. Rachel picks up the shell, and the voice stops humming and reminds itself to be brave. Kirsty asks the shell if there’s a fairy inside, and the voice answers that it’s Amber the Orange Fairy.

The girls tell Amber their names and try to pull the shell open, to no avail. Rachel remembers the magic bags, and pulls one of them, which is glowing, out of her beach bag. Inside the magic bag is a tiny golden feather, which neither girl knows what to do with. Kirsty asks Amber, who says to tickle the shell, which Rachel tries. The shell begins to laugh and slowly opens, revealing Amber, who flies out in a shower of tiny orange-scented bubbles, turning cartwheels and pelting the girls with questions. Rachel explains that they’ve found Ruby and promised to help the rest of the Rainbow Fairies, and Kirsty runs to tell their parents they’ll be going for a walk (to bring Amber to the pot under the willow tree). Rachel tells Amber about their trip to Fairyland, and Kirsty returns with permission to go for a walk.

The girls get dressed and bring Amber’s shell at her request (she says it will make a cozy bed), then head for the little woods. At the pot, the girls are surprised to see a green frog in the pot. Rachel picks up the frog, who demands to know what she’s doing, surprising her into letting him go. Amber recognises the frog as Bertram, one of King Oberon’s footmen, who’s out of uniform to avoid detection on the island. He explains that some goblins have been spotted sneaking out of Fairyland, probably sent by Jack Frost to stop the Rainbow Fairies from being found, so he’s here to protect Ruby and now Amber. Ruby appears then to greet her sister. Ruby admires the shell Amber and the girls brought, then offers to show the girls how she’s made the pot into a home, turning them into fairies again with Amber’s help. Ruby has furnished the pot with twig chairs and a leaf carpet, and Bertram helps them bring in the shell, which Ruby lines with soft rose petals. Amber wishes aloud that she and Ruby could go home to Fairyland, and Ruby says she can at least show Amber their home, using the magic pond. She turns Rachel and Kirsty back into human girls and sprinkles fairy dust on the water.

Fairyland still looks grey, and then a cold breeze blows the picture away, replacing it with Jack Frost’s face as the edges of the pond begin to freeze. Bertram warns them that this means there are goblins nearby, and they all hide in a bush. The air turns cold, and the girls can see goblins’ shadows and hear arguing voices. One voice confirms that the goblins have been sent to stop the Rainbow Fairies from returning to Fairyland. The goblins don’t find anyone, though, so they soon leave. The girls, the fairies, and Bertram emerge from the bush to discover that the pot’s opening has been covered in ice from the effects of the nearby goblins. Neither fairy is strong enough to break the ice, but Bertram kicks it until it shatters. Both fairies thank him and say goodbye to the girls. As they leave, the girls express hope that the goblins won’t come back, but a chilly breeze as they rejoin their parents makes them doubt that will be the case.
